I haven't worked on my fanfics lately, but inspiration struck this morning and gave me a side story.

The sun was an hour away from setting as the five teenaged girls wearing school uniforms and backpacks walked through a park where the pink petals of sakura trees were scattered across the ground. They looked and acted like an ordinary group of girls walking home from after-school activities, but these particular girls were far from ordinary.

Introductions

The girl in the center was Solaria, the Sun Sorceress with the power of Sol Invictus. The second-tallest of the five, she had a calm demeanor, wore black-rimmed rectangular glasses, and had her blonde shoulder-length hair arranged in a single ponytail held by a clip.

To her left was Aera, the Wind Sorceress with the power of Mercury. She had short brown hair, a round face, and a bubbly personality. (She resembles Mako from Kill La Kill but not as flat or round looking, and her hair is longer on one side.)

To Solaria's right was Rio, the Water Sorceress with the power of Neptune. She was the shortest of the five and had the most plain appearance. She wore glasses with round frames and her straight black hair hung down past her shoulders.

To Aera's left was Cindy, the Fire Sorceress with the power of Mars. Her black hair was cut short in a boy's cut, and she had the confident personality of a master martial artist, which she was.

To Rio's right was Electra, the Lightning Sorceress with the power of Jupiter. The tallest of the group, her bleached white hair puffed out in an '80s-style perm with dyed highlights.

Walking along

The five comrades walked along making small talk as sakura petals fell.

Solaria: "So we're learning that Newtonian physics no longer produces accurate results at very small scales when you're dealing with microscopic stuff or very fast moving things that approach the speed of light, so they needed to invent new branches of physics to explain what they were seeing in experiments. That's sort-of what the theory of relativity is about."

Rio said simply, "Cool."

Solaria continued. "I really ought to get into my book tonight so that I'm ready when they get deeper into it because it's already starting to get over my head, so I should be prepared."

Electra jokingly said, "If a class is giving you trouble, I'm afraid to learn more about it."

Cindy felt up for a challenge. "It sounds interesting. Maybe I'll take physics next year."

Solaria encouraged her. "The first semester of physics is all the Newtonian model. It's easy if you've taken trigonometry."

Cindy bit her lip. Maybe she would take algebra next year.

A breeze blew. The sakura petals fell down in pink streams.

Rio noted that "the wind is picking up."

Cindy spoke what Rio had implied but did not say. "Do you think it's trouble?"

Solaria: "I hope not, but we haven't been ambushed in a while."

Electra: "Let's keep an eye out."

As the others were talking tactics, Aera stepped forward from the group, looked upward, and took a deep breath as the petals fell on her face. "They're so beaut--" A sudden breeze blew a stream of petals into her eyes and mouth, forcing her to squint and turn and cover her face and cough. "One went up my nose! ... They taste nice though."

Electra teased her. "The master of the power of wind."

Aera playfully stuck out her tongue at Electra. Her tongue still had two petals on it.

Solaria interrupted them with three words. "We have trouble." Playtime was over.

Meet trouble

Standing ahead of them was one of their regular nemeses, Wanafyte, a man with a handsome face and blond hair that covered his left eye. He wore elegant blue armour with silver trim. In his right hand he held three grey balls of a claylike material, rolling them around with his thumb. He held two more in his clenched left hand. He smiled at the young ladies.

He tossed the three balls in the air, moved the other two into his favoured hand, and threw them at the ground. Five large puffs of grey smoke erupted as the balls struck the earth, and out of the smoke jumped five Putties, humanoid creatures that looked like stagehands with grey stockings covering their entire body.

The girls gave disappointed sighs. Electra said "Wanafyte, don't waste our time with this."

Wanafyte smiled confidently. "I felt you were due for an ambush."

Solaria said "Standing in front of us and waiting is not an ambush."

Cindy quietly hissed at her. "Don't give him help!"

Solaria whispered back "Sorry."

Wanafyte dramatically raised his right arm. "So... It's ambush time!" He pointed forward. The Putties stood in front of him, in idle relaxed poses. One of them brushed sakura petals off its shoulder. Wanafyte clarified himself. "That means go. ... That means you." The Putties jumped in place, raised their arms, and began scrambling forward.

The Putties exploded into dust as the girls took them out. Cindy gave one a fist to the face. Aera stepped back and then ran into one shoulder-first. Solaria slammed one with an overhead swing of her backpack. Rio hit one with an underhand swing of her backpack. Electra kicked the last one in the torso. Each dissipated on impact before they could fight back.

Wanafyte was surprised at how quickly the girls had dispatched the Putties. "They did not even transform." He began sweating with worry.

Epic Transformation

Of the five, only Rio opened her purse to dig out her magic transformation wand in case she might need it. The others impatiently stared at Wanafyte to see what would come next.

Solaria brought her backpack over one shoulder to where she could quickly put it back on, put it down, or use it as a weapon again. She impatiently addressed Wanafyte. "Just give us the monster of the week and we'll go."

Cindy added, "Or just give up."

Wanafyte cackled and grinned. "All right girls, since you asked for it..." He held up his hand. "I will seize a force of nature!" The wind blew streams of sakura petals around his arm. "I will use these sakura petals because I don't think anyone has done this before and I want to see what happens."

Cindy flatly said "Oh, we are going to be attacked by something lovely."

Electra smiled at Cindy's attitude. "Nice."

Rio noticed that she was the only one of the five holding her wand. "Should we transform, just in case?"

Solaria thought it was reasonable to be prepared. "We should get our wands out."

"Yeah." "You're right." Cindy and Aera agreed.

Wanafyte continued. "And, I will need an unwilling victim to infuse with this energy!" He looked around the park. "Huh. There's no one around. I could use an animal. Is there a squirrel or something?" He looked and saw a small group of chickens. "That'll work." He began running toward the birds.

Cindy: "Well, this is gonna be dumber than usual."

Aera: "I wonder what sakura-infused chicken tastes like."

Rio: "That sounds pretty good actually. You could make it like orange chicken but use cherry preserves instead of marmalade."

Electra: "You use marmalade for orange chicken?"

Rio: "It's quick and it's easy."

Electra: "You could make it right and it will taste good too."

Rio: "It's not that bad! Although, it is very sweet."

Wanafyte chased after the clucking and bucking chickens. "Here, chickie chickie chickie!" There was a loud squawk and a burst of flying feathers as he captured a rooster. "Gotcha! And now, grow with the corrupted energy of sakura!"

The rooster glowed brightly and grew, grew, grew, until it was eight feet tall. It stopped glowing. The magical infusion process had turned several of its feathers pink and had also placed a saddle on its back. Wanafyte jumped onto the beast. From the creature's back he announced "Behold my new monstrous creation: The Cock-Sakura!"

The Cock-Sakura raised its head to the sky and crowed with a "R-R-hack-blat" and spat out a mouthful of sakura petals and a pink cone of energy.

Boss Encounter

The girls giggled. Solaria took a breath, calmed herself, and addressed Wanafye. "Excuse me. What was the name of that thing?"

Wanafyte smiled proudly. "Cock-Sakura."

The girls laughed. Between guffaws, Aera said "I'm sorry, I didn't quite get that. Could you say its name again?"

Wanafyte was a bit confused by the girls' behaviour as he answered. "Cock-Sakura."

The girls laughed uproariously. Rio fell to the ground, her cheeks bright red.

Wanafyte looked on at this oddness. "It seems to have the power to cripple you with laughter."

Electra calmed herself enough to respond. "Oh yes. Yes it does."

Solaria was the first to take it seriously. "Girls, it could actually be dangerous."

Cindy quickly agreed. "She's right. Let's see what it can do."

The Cock-Sakura turned toward the side, crowed with a "R-R-hack-blat", and coughed out another mouthful of petals and a cone of pink energy that struck the grass.

Cindy observed. "It had no effect on the grass."

Aera ran forward. Electra warned her. "Aera, be careful!"

Aera ran up to the apparently unaffected grass, hesitated, and ran through it. She looked up at the Cock-Sakura and yelled "Hey you big chicken!" She stuck out her tongue and gave it a Bronx cheer.

Wanafyte commanded the monster. "Cock-Sakura, attack!" The Cock-Sakura crowed and coughed and spat out its energy onto the ground, not aiming toward Aera. Aera ran up to the beam and stuck a hand in it just as it died out. Stepping backward she yelled, "Yeah, it's harmless."

Cindy yelled back at Aera. "Don't take your eyes off it!"

Solaria commented. "That was stupid. If it wasn't harmless she could have lost a hand."

Wanafyte yelled at his beast. "Attack! Attack them!" It slowly wandered the park, clucking loudly.

Solaria put her backpack back on. "It looks like this was a bust." She walked forward and her friends did the same.

Wanafyte sighed. "Honestly, this is not my most embarrassing failure."

Aera looked up at Wanafyte and suggested "you could, like, put that thing in a zoo and charge people to see it."

The girls regrouped and walked away. Behind them, Wanafyte stepped down to the ground, opened a portal back to the Netherworld, and left the dimension, leaving the giant bird behind.

Aftermath

Cindy asked Aera "Is your hand alright?"

Aera held up the unaffected hand. "Yeah. Sure. It feels fine."

Electra asked "So that corrupted sakura energy didn't do anything at all?"

"Well..." Aera smiled mischievously. "I feel a little horny but I think that's just me."

The girls laughed at the unexpected crude joke.

Cindy: "Aera!"

Electra: "Oh my god..."

Solaria: "Okay. I did not need to know that."

As they reached the next intersection, Cindy said "All right, this is where I split off. See you tomorrow."

The other girls saw her off. "Bye!" "See you, Cindy!" They continued walking home together.

Later, much later, around episode 8 of Crash Champions, Dark Queen Lirazel of the Netherworld notices that the sorceresses of the Planetary Order of Solar Warriors have split up and gone off to college, and no one has seen Solaria in years! It's like she's off in some other dimension. Lirazel summons her minions Wanafyte, Trilobyte, and Helatyte to discuss a new plan to conquer the Solar System...
