Fanfic update
Jan. 18th, 2018 07:43 pmI haven't worked on my Smash parody/fanfic in months but I decided to throw together one-paragraph brief descriptions of the characters. The managers are original characters and Hong merges enough different elements to be an OC. You've probably met most of the rest.
Alex Smith
Position: Tournament Contestant
Manager: Howie Gutman
Powers: Variable energy gun, missiles, bombs, power armor, martial arts
The most feared -- and expensive -- bounty hunter in her home dimension, Alex is a confident, competent fighter who does not like to lose. She is also a loner who is not used to fighting on a team, which fits with Howie's hands-off managing style.
Cat Black
Position: Referee
Powers: Sorcery, flight
The mischievous sorceress Cat Black was a highly ranked tournament fighter until she learned that she could get more money and power by joining the Corporation and refereeing the fights. The Corporation enjoys the higher viewer ratings drawn by her antics, as long as she does not cause any trouble...
Celestia van Rijndael
Position: Mercenary
Manager: Mick Legato
Powers: Sorcery, strategy, magic absorbtion, swordfighting, martial arts, flight (limited)
Celestia could have been a top contestant in the Crash Championship until she was disqualified for blowing up the training arena with her magic powers. Mick is certain that he can still find a use for her somehow.
Conrad
Position: Tournament Contestant
Manager: Harkness
Powers: Swordfighting, strategy
The ruthless feudal lord Conrad seeks new paths to glory in the Crash Championship. He treats everybody as a potential enemy who he intends to dominate, so nobody really likes him.
Dick Wood
Position: Tournament Contestant
Manager: Harkness
Powers: Gunfighting, steel nerves
The unfazeable Dick Wood will stare down any threat without flinching and shoot it in the face. The only thing that bothers him is running out of ammunition.
Dink
Position: Tournament Contestant
Manager: Rickard Lexington
Powers: Gadgets
A goblin Leonardo, Dink would rather spend his time inventing gadgets in his workshop than fighting. He will often being new gadgets into the tournament to give himself an edge up on his opponents.
(note: Dink is a minor character who filled the place of "some other fighter who is not named" so he does not get much screen time. In a drawing of this group, Dink would be hidden behind the other characters.)
Harkness
Position: Team Manager
A pragmatic middle-aged businesswoman, Harkness can afford to keep a stable of average-ranked fighters that she hopes to train up to playoff quality. She tries to be a friend to her fighters while encouraging them to train harder.
(note: Harkness's first name is not yet written.)
Sergeant Hawk
Position: Tournament Contestant
Manager: Howie Gutman
Powers: Ki-enhanced martial arts, hovercraft racing
A competent police detective reassigned to public relations, Sergeant Hawk was the popular face of the Blue City Police Department and was famous for challenging teenagers to friendly hovercraft races until he was recruited into the Crash Championship. His charismatic acting has made him one of the most popular fighters in the tournament.
Highman
Position: Referee
Powers: Invulnerability, super strength, flight
Exiled as a baby from the planet Krapton for the crimes of his parents, he was found and adopted by Moishe and Esther Hyman of the kibbutz Kfar Tallot. They named him Samuel. At six months old he was strong enough to lift a T-34 tank. Now a full-grown adult, Highman is a strong fighter for Truth, Justice, and the Zionist way!
Howie Gutman
Position: Team Manager
The fun-loving Howie believes the tournament should be about having a good time, not making money. He generally lets his fighters do what they want as long as they are happy and keeping the fans happy. He is always playing some sort of video game to distract his active mind.
Ms. James
Position: Corporate Secretary
Powers: Organizational skills, large rolodex
As the official liaison between the Corporation and the team managers, Ms. James represents the Corporation and makes sure that the Crash Championship runs smoothly. She is always focused on business and ensures that tasks that need to be done will get done. No one dares to call her by her first name, Victoria. NEVER call her Vicky.
Jill Ross
Position: Tournament Contestant
Manager: Mick Legato
Powers: Super strength, big gun, computer hacking
Jill was an ordinary college student until her Earth was attacked by evil lizards from outer space. She was injected with alien nanites in a secret military program to create a super-soldier that could defeat the aliens with their own technology. Plucked from her broken world into an unfamiliar new life, Jill is uncertain whether anything is real or a hallucination.
Kenneth Roberts
Position: Tournament Contestant
Manager: Harkness
Powers: Ki-enhanced martial arts, projectile reflection, energy projection
A martial arts master in a polo shirt, Kenneth's tennis-based fighting style is the bane of any opponent who uses projectile weapons! He is also an expert hand-to-hand fighter with a famous finishing move, the powerful Flying Dragon Punch.
Metal Knight
Position: Tournament Contestant
Manager: Antonius Zexler
Powers: Telekenesis, sound projection, energy projection
With his orange wig, sparkling sunglasses, and electric guitar, the mild-mannered blue slime Bloop becomes the legendary musician Metal Knight! As a master of sound, Bloop can speak. He simply chooses not to.
Miguel "Mick" Legato
Position: Team Manager
The happy-go-lucky Mick could pay off his gambling debts if his fighters can win the Crash Championship. He still needs to find and recruit somebody to fight for him, but he is confident that everything will fall into place.
Rickard Lexington
Position: Team Manager
Always a noble gentleman, Rick's age is catching up to him and he may be forced to retire soon. He appreciates Dink's genius and is happy to subsidize the goblin's workshop, whereas other managers might consider it a waste of money and effort when they are already surrounded by so much higher technology.
Sneaky Weasel
Position: Retired
Powers: Espionage, summoning cigarettes, hiding in a cardboard box
A master of sabotage and infiltration, Sneaky Weasel retired from the tournament last year but he will be back. You might not see him unless you look under that cardboard box...
Solaria
Position: Tournament Contestant
Manager: Antonius Zexler
Power: Power of Sol Invictus
With a wave of her wand and the words "Solar Power!", Solaria becomes the Sun Sorceress, the most powerful of the Planetary Order of Solar Warriors. An imposing presence in the arena, she is surprisingly friendly and easygoing when not fighting.
Starman
Position: Referee
Powers: Ki-enhanced martial arts, energy projection, super strength, damage resistance
With no knowledge of his past, Hong fell from the stars as a boy and was adopted by the legendary Master Wu of the school of Qing Feng. Following Master Wu's teachings, Hong tries to be an example of calmness and serenity in an often chaotic multiverse.
Princess Strawberry
Position: Tournament Contestant
Manager: Howie Gutman
Powers: Fireball, limited flight
The ever-popular Princess Strawberry is as ferocious in the arena as she is gracious outside of it. As one of the most experienced fighters in the tournament, she glides through the arena like it is her natural environment, giving her an advantage over less experienced fighters.
Sunny Delight
Position: Tournament Contestant
Manager: Antonius Zexler
Powers: Flight, energy projectiles, martial arts
Keeper of the Danmaku Shrine, it is Sunny's job to defend the land of Danmaku against monsterous abberations. She should probably get back to doing that, but she enjoys the easy life and luxuries of the Core Worlds.
Antonius Zexler
Position: Team Manager
Notorious for misdeeds in his younger days, Zexler is not so much a reformed villain as a retired one. He is simply too old to care about being evil anymore. His stern guidance may be exactly what some of his fighters need.
(Two blacked-out profiles near Jill)
Mick believes that Jill can lead his team to victory in the Crash Championship if he could find her some teammates. Who could they be?
(note: it's supposed to be a mystery until who is hired until the reveal in episode 4, even though I've already published snippets involving them.)
(Three blacked-out profiles)
There are many more fighters in the tournament, and some retired fighters may return for a special appearance! Who could they be?
(note: Harry's appearance in episode 8 is intended to be a surprise that includes a genre shift. The others make brief appearances.)
And how could I forget another recurring character...
Doughnut Shop Boy
Position: Doughnut shop boy
Powers: Nepotism
DSB: "Can I take your order?"
Customer: "Well. Can you?"
DSB: "I dunno."
